It’s time to finally stop education as usual and create a paradigm shift. How it'll all work

Let’s do a quick rundown of how the whole thing will work.

The event will run from June 21 through 24 with 20+ pre-recorded presentations throughout the summit. These presentations will include 30 minutes of content and a live chat. 

While the presentations and interviews themselves are pre-recorded, all speakers are asked to attend their presentation time live to interact with attendees in the chatbox. There is no video component, so attendance in pjs is recommended 😉

Along with the live presentations, there will be a Facebook group for attendees to hang out in, hold each other accountable, and ask all of us additional questions. If attendees have good questions while your presentation is going on, you’ll be able to go live in the Facebook group for a bit of an encore to answer those questions, connect with the attendees, and provide even more value.

The additional Facebook live is not required but it is a great way to connect with attendees and get some more face time!

Leading up to the summit, we’ll have three weeks of promotion. You’ll be provided with all the mail and social media copy as well as social media graphics to make promotion easy! I'll even have a suggested posting/sending schedule for you to make promo easy to outsource to an assistant. In addition, I’d love to join you and help you promote on your own platforms--as a guest on your podcast, as part of a Facebook live, whatever you do to connect with your audience.

During the promotion phase, as the summit is running, and for a week after the summit is complete, we’ll also be promoting the VIP Pass. This includes an All-Access Pass for the replays as well as access to courses, programs, and downloadables provided by our speakers. This will provide immense value to our attendees, while earning some money for our non-profit recipient, Black Youth Project

What I'll need from you

So this all sounds great, but what kind of work does it require of you? Let’s chat about it! My goal is to make this all as easy as humanly possible so we can all have a blast while providing powerful insights to how education can evolve and all can be activists. We also want more folks to know about YOU! 

  1. BASIC INFORMATION

The first thing I’ll need is some very basic information from you so I can finish up our registration page and Speakers page.

This information includes things like:

  • Name
  • Title
  • Bio
  • Square headshot

You can upload that information right here.

  1. PRESENTATION SLOT SCHEDULED

The next thing I’ll need is for you to schedule your presentation slot! Click here to see the list of times that are available and to schedule yours. (Slots are first-come first-served so if you have a tight schedule be sure to grab your spot right away)

While your presentation will be pre-recorded, you’ll still be required to be in the chat live during your time slot to answer questions and connect with attendees. During this slot, once your presentation has had time to air, you’ll also be able to jump into the Facebook group for an encore and to answer any great questions that weren’t answered in your presentation. 

And RSVP if you can join a few of the other speakers in a roundtable discussion on your speaking day. Roundtables are 3:00 pm PDT. We'd love to engage with the participants and inspire them here!

  1. PRESENTATION

Next up is your presentation/interview! This is a 30-minute pre-recorded presentation or interview that is meant to be more friendly and casual than perfect and structured. We want our attendees to learn something great and be inspired to take action, while having fun in the process.

Please structure your content in a way that allows attendees to walk away feeling like they've really learned something, rather than a webinar format where they feel like they're missing something that they need to buy from you asap.

With that being said, you have your choice of the following presentation formats:

Keep in mind that we’re looking to inspire change. Your presentation needs to have a call to action to work with communities to change the paradigm of what schools look like. Let’s challenge attendees to rally the forces and create student-driven educational models focusing on context over content.

Your presentation should include great, actionable content. Here’s the suggested format (and the one we’ll use in the interviews):

  • A common concern about our education model
  • A brief intro of who you are and who you work with (your audience)
  • Unpacking the concern
  • What you have been able to do to address this concern
  • Specific action steps attendees can take to address this concern
  • Include questions for attendees to answer in the chat box throughout to boost engagement
  • Briefly mention how they can use your resources (if applicable) for help

End  your presentation giving attendees a specific ask to take action and move the needle!

If you’d like to go with the interview style presentation, schedule a time with me to do that here. We will record and process these interviews, but we will not edit them. Come ready for an inspiring conversation!

No matter what format you choose, you are free to use your presentation however you’d like in the future.

Presentations are due by May 13 in mp4 format. We recommend recording on Zoom.

  1. VIP PASS CONTRIBUTION

The VIP Pass will be a huge addition to the presentations we’re running. To make it even more valuable, I’ll ask each of you to provide one resource to add. This includes things like:

  • eBooks
  • Workbooks
  • Courses (big or small)
  • 1-month memberships
  • Freebies

Note: I expect this to convert well so I do not recommend contributing any 1:1 offers.

It’s totally up to you to decide whether you’d like to create something new or provide something you already have. While this isn’t required, it’s highly encouraged that you participate.

  1. PROMOTION

The power of an online summit comes from a group of experts and leaders (that’s you!) coming together for a single cause. The joint promotion that happens because of that is a huge benefit to everyone involved.

Because of that, everyone is encouraged to share on social media and to email summit information to their lists during the promotion period, starting on May 24.

We ask that you:

  • Send information about the event to your email list at least once
  • Share about the summit and the cause at least twice on social media (we’ll be sharing almost daily during the promotional period)
  • Ask Maureen to be on your podcast, FB Lives, anything to help get the word out

You’ll find promotional copy and graphics in the Resource Vault soon so all you have to do it copy and paste into emails and social media posts.

  1. LIVE PARTICIPATION

And last comes participation during the week of the event. Since we’ll already have done the work of creating the presentations and extra resources, we’ll be able to sit back and relax for the most part!

I ask that each speaker participate in the chat during your presentation slot and interact in the Facebook group throughout the week to help attendees stay excited and engaged.

While you are not required to attend the events of other speakers, it’s highly encouraged! Please RSVP to Maureen if you can attend the 3:00 PDT roundtable discussion on the day you present. We want the attendees to get to know you better! We’ll be able to get some great discussions going about the topics being presented.

  • Start promoting on May 24
  • You’ll have swipe copy and graphics by May 10 so you can schedule your promotion
